The Awesome Power of A Daily Rhythm
Perhaps you’ve heard of Joan Miró.
He was a Spanish artist, famous for his paintings, sculptures, and ceramics.
Yet here’s what most people don’t know about him:
Miró wanted to be an artist from the time he was a young boy, but when he was just 18 years old he began suffering from chronic depression.
He often felt lonely and isolated.
To make matters worse, Miró had frequent nervous breakdowns.
At his lowest point, he couldn’t get out of bed for an entire year.
Nevertheless, Miró held onto his dream of becoming an artist.
Eventually, he came to understand that while he couldn’t control everything about his mental health, he could create a daily rhythm that gave him structure, focus, and a sense of stability.
So that’s exactly what he did.
He developed a routine that supported his well-being and creative life, even during difficult periods.
Every day he would wake up at the same time (6 o’clock sharp), have breakfast, head to his studio, and work non-stop until noon.
Then, he would exercise, eat lunch, and spend the rest of his day seeing friends or attending to business matters.
Over the years, this routine got Miró past difficult moments that would have otherwise sent him spiraling into bouts of depression.
But, thanks to Miro’s process and his daily habits, he was able to stay on track and create masterpiece after masterpiece.
